Electric storms and rain forced players in the Nedbank Golf Challenge second round off the Gary Player Country Club course on Friday with the leading group through just three holes.

But that was enough time for Europe’s Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald of England to draw level with overnight leader Ryan Fox of New Zealand. Donald made birdie on the par-five second, while Fox made bogey on the third. They were busy with the par-three fourth when the siren sounded.

They were on eight-under, who shots clear of their nearest pursuers, Ross Fisher of England, Rasmus Hojgaard of Denmark and Italy’s Guido Migliozzi.

The big movers in the second round so far were Fisher and Gavin Green of Malaysia, each at five-under-par through 10 and 11 holes respectively. England’s Sam Horsfield had got to four-under for the round through 11.

The best-placed South African was Richard Sterne, who was two-under through 11 and had move to three-under for the tournament. Thriston Lawrence was on the charge, and was three-under through five, at one-under for the tournament and in a share of 23rd.

Justin Walters and Branden Grace were on two-under, and Oliver Bekker was on one-under. George Coetzee and Christiaan Bezuidenhout were on one-over, Shaun Norris on two-over, and JC Ritchie and Zander Lombard on four-over.
