Reading Golf Club local Hein Dreyer took advantage of his home course to post a winning eight-under-par 63 on Thursday to win the Bushveld Tour’s one-day event by three shots.
After starting his round on the 10th, it was his early stretch of an eagle on the par-five 12th followed by four consecutive birdies which pulled him clear of the Sunshine Tour trio of Kyle Barker, Luke Jerling and Peetie van der Merwe who each carded five-under 66. Dylan Naidoo and Ryan Dreyer shared fifth on four-under.
“It equalled my best round on the course,” said Dreyer, who is hoping to travel to the United States in August to take up a scholarship in Nebraska. “It certainly helped that I’ve been a member at Reading since 2017.
“It was a windy day out there, which made things quite tough, but I putted well on greens that were really fast,” said Dreyer. “You just had to get the right line, and that helped me a lot.”
