Hennie du Plessis put himself in a strong position on Thursday in the second round of the Challenge Tour’s Made in Esbjerg Challenge at Esbjerg Golfklub in Esbjerg, Denmark as he carded a three-under-par 68 to be five-under-par at the halfway mark of the tournament.
That put him in a share of third place, two shots off the lead which was held by Sweden’s Jesper Svensson. Svensson had a one-stroke lead over Felix Mory of France. Du Plessis shared third with Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson, Samuel del Val of Spain and Niklas Regner of Austria. There were five players in a share of seventh, one shot further back.
Du Plessis made three birdies in his second round, the same as in his first, but, with no bogeys in his second round, he was able to put himself closer to the top of the leaderboard.
Behind him, Merrick Bremner carded a second-round of two-under 69 to move to two-under for the tournament and a share of 16th. Ruan Conradie also signed for a 69 on Thursday, and he is in a share of 38th on level par.
The fourth South African in the tournament, Martin Rohwer, missed the cut with rounds of 74 and 71, leaving him at three-over for the tournament and two shots outside the cut.
