A closing four-under-par 66 on Wednesday propelled Danielle du Toit to a victory over the men in the field as she took the Bushveld Tour’s Race to Q-School #5 title by a single stroke at Killarney Country Club.

It was the equal low-round of the day, too, with 66s coming from England’s Joe Knox and South African Eric Wowor. Du Toit’s three birdies on each nine after she started with a bogey on the first, saw her finish the 54-hole event on eight-under-par.

The runner-up was Reece McKain, who closed with a 68, and in third place on six-under for the tournament was Dean Ralphs after his closing 67. Ralphs had made a strong bid for victory with a four-under 31 on the front nine which included an eagle-two on the eighth and a double-bogey five on the fourth.

In the end, Du Toit’s three birdies on consecutive holes from the 13th to the 15th were enough for the victory as Ralphs closed with two bogeys in a row on 17 and 18. McKain’s closing 68 was bogey-free, and he will perhaps look to his par on the par-15 15th, where Du Toit made birdie, as an opportunity lost.

There are five more events in the Race to Q-School series ahead of the Tour Championship presented by Srixon Golf SA, which will also be at Killarney.
