Although the first round was suspended due to darkness on Wednesday, MJ Daffue still managed to have a superb back nine of seven-under-par 29 to take a two-stroke lead in the first round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.

Daffue had a bogey-free round as he signed for a nine-under-par 62 to lead Justin Suh of the United States, who had a seven-under-par 64 with two eagles on his card. Suh was a shot clear of five of his countrymen, Martin Flores, Tyson Alexander, Patrick Fishburn, Taylor Montgomery and Shawn Stefani.

Daffue opened up with six successive pars before he started making his move with birdies on seven and eight. Once he reached the halfway mark, he turned it on, making four birdies in a row from the 10th, and picking up three more shots on the 15th, 16th and 18th.

The other South African in the field, Dawie van der Walt, carded a three-under-par 68 to be in a share of 27th, six shots behind Daffue.
