An eagle on the homeward nine on Sunday helped Keith Horne to a six-under 66 and a share of 11th in the PGA Tour Champions’ Principal Charity Classic at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines, Iowa.
Horne, playing on a sponsor’s invitation, had made three birdies on the front nine and picked up another on the 11th before he had to take a drop after his tee shot on the 536-yard par-five 13th. Playing three, he promptly holed his approach to get to 12-under for the tournament with five to play. Although he birdied 15 and 16, he bookended those gains with bogeys on 14 and 17 to just miss out on a top-10 finish.
At 12-under, he was five shots outside the three-way play-off, which was won by Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain on the first extra hole from Cameron Percy of Australia and Dane Soren Kjeldsen.
Ernie Els finished with a four-under 68 to take a share of fourth on 14-under, while Retief Goosen shared 11th with Horne and two others after his closing 69.
