Els 2 back ahead of weekend in Charles Schwab Cup Championship

A one-under-par 70 on Friday saw Ernie Els slip down into a share of seventh in the PGA Tour Champions season finale, the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Phoenix Country Club in Phoenix, Arizona.

After his opening eight-under 63, it was a frustrating day for Els, with three birdies and two bogeys on his card. However, at nine-under, he was just two strokes off the lead which was held by Steven Alker of New Zealand and American Marco Dawson. There was a four-way share of third between Padraig Harrington, Alex Cejka, Harrison Frazar and Tongchai Jaidee. Els shared seventh with Stephen Ames of Canada and Australian Richard Greene.

Behind Els, Retief Goosen also carded a one-under-par 70 in the second round , and, after his opening 66, slipped down nine places on the leaderboard to head into the weekend in a share of 14th on six-under-par.
