While he had three bogeys on his homeward nine on Friday, Ernie Els had done enough to card a one-under-par 71 on Friday to move into a share of third in the Legends Tour’s JCB Championship at JCB Golf & Country Club in Uttoxeter, England.
Els moved to four-under-par in the 54-hole tournament together with Steven Alker of New Zealand. That was two strokes off the pace set by Peter Baker of England at six-under, with Fiji’s Vijay Singh in second on five-under. Jeev Milkha Singh of India was in fifth on three-under.
Els made an eagle and two birdies on the front nine to offset the three bogeys on the back nine.
Keith Horne carded a second round of three-over-par 75 to be in a share of eighth on one-under through 36 holes, and James Kingston was on level-par in a share of 16th after his second round of four-under-par 68.
Chris Williams had a level-par 72 to be in a share of 36th on four-over while Adilson Da Silva battled on, his second-round 77 leaving him at nine-over in a share of 52nd.
