Ernie Els dropped one place in the Schwab Cup points race on the PGA Tour Champions on Sunday, despite finishing in a share of fourth place in the second-last event of the season, the TimberTech Championship in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Big Easy slipped to fourth on the list, having been overtaken by Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez who finished runner-up to New Zealand’s Steven Alker. Alker closed with a 68 to edge Jimenez by two shots at 17-under, and Jimenez shared second with Jim Furyk, who remains at second on the points list behind Germany’s Bernhard Langer.
Els made four birdies and three bogeys in his final round, and shared fourth with American Tim Petrovic.
Retief Goosen closed with a two-over 73 to slip six spots down the leaderboard into a share of 25th. That was enough to keep him in sixth place on the points list ahead of the Charles Schwab Championship starting on November 11.
