Ernie Els got his nose in front for a while on Sunday, but a double-bogey derailed his efforts to win the PGA Tour Champions Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and he ended up in a share of sixth place.
Els made four birdies on the front nine to get to 13-under-par for the tournament and a share of the lead, but a wayward tee-shot on the par-four 12th at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club saw him having to reload and eventually make a double-bogey there. He followed that with a bogey on the par-five 13th, where he three-putted. He picked up a birdie on 16 to at least stop the rot.
The tournament was won by Steve Stricker, who carded a five-under 67 to move to 15-under and a one-stroke margin over fellow-American Brett Quigley.
David Frost closed with a four-under 68 to share 23rd at four-under-par.
