Els just 1 back at halfway in Senior Players Championship

Ernie Els reached the halfway mark of the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship on Friday just one shot off the lead after he carded a two-under-par 68 in the second round.

The Big Easy made three birdies and a bogey to move to five-under for the fourth senior major championship of the year. He shared fifth place behind the leaders, Steven Alker of New Zealand, American Tim Petrovic and Joe Durant, and Germany’s Alex Cejka.

Also in fifth with Els were Woody Austin, David Toms and Steve Stricker, all of the United States.

Retief Goosen had a one-under 69 in the second round, moving to one-over for the tournament and a share of 31st. David Frost had a two-over 72, and at seven-over, was in a share of 62nd.
