Ernie Els battled to a closing four-over-par 75 on Sunday in the final round of the US Senior Open Championship in Pennsylvania, dropping him nine places on the leaderboard into a share of 13th.
He was level-par for the week, and that put him 10 shots behind the winner, Padraig Harrington, who held off the charge from Steve Stricker with a closing level-par. That give him his first senior major championship title, while Stricker came up one shot short with a superb closing six-under 65. The pair was well clear of third-placed Mark Hensby of Australia.
Retief Goosen closed with a two-under 69, which elevated him to a share of 18th on two-over for the tournament, while James Kingston had a closing two-over 73 to finish on 12-over for the week in a share of 58th.
