Dean Germishuys signed off with a flourish on Sunday in the Challenge Tour’s Open de Bretagne in France as he made seven birdies to card a six-under 64 in finishing in a share of 11th.
After battling middle rounds of one-over and two-over, and an opening level-par, he found himself in 39th going into the final round, but he put that all right with his closer, moving to three-under for the tournament. That was eight shots behind winner Alfie Plant of England, who closed with a two-under 68 to win by one from Ireland Ruaidhri McGee, who had a 69 to finish on 10-under.
Germishuys got things going early with a birdie on the first, and another on the fourth. He made what turned out to be his only bogey of the day on the par-four fifth. He birdied nine and 11, and then made three in a row down the stretch from the 15th to the 17th for the joint lowest round of the day.
Jaco Prinsloo ground out a level-par 70 to close, finishing on level-par in a share of 20th. Luke Jerling had a horrible final day, his seven-over 77 seeing him slide down into a share of 30th, 25 places below where he started the final round. Bryce Easton had a closing 73 to finish in a share of 53rd.
Germishuys’ performance saw him stay in 18th on the Challenge Tour rankings, behind the man who still leads, JC Ritchie.
