South African Open champion Thriston Lawrence finished with a flourish on Sunday as he carded a six-under-par 66 in the closing round of the DP World Tour’s Horizon Irish Open at the K Club in Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland.

Lawrence, who also won the BMW International Open in Germany in June on the DP World Tour this season, climbed 23 places up the final leaderboard with his round. Only the winner, Vincent Norrman of Sweden, carded a better closing round than Lawrence as his 65 took him to 14-under and a one-stroke win over 54-hole leader Hurly Long of Germany.

Lawrence overcame two bogeys in his first three holes, carding eagles on four and 18, and four birdies to finish in a share of third on 12-under-par. His closing eagle came courtesy of a 45-footer which curled its way in from right to left.

Next best of the South Africans was Erik van Rooyen who had a closing five-under 57 to move to nine-under and a share of 16th. Bryce Easton also finished strongly with a five-under 67 and he was on six-under in a share of 39th.

Hennie du Plessis had a two-under 70 and was in a share of 54th on four-under. Louis de Jager carded the same score as Du Plessis and was one shot further back in a share of 61st.

Zander Lombard closed with a two-over 74 and was in a share of 85th on five-over for the tournament.
