A superb front nine of five birdies on Thursday set Garrick Higgo up for an opening six-under-par 66 in the first round of the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open at Grande Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

He made two birdies and a bogey on his way home, and he ended the day in a share of third, one shot off the lead which was held by Americans Scott Piercy and Joe Highsmith. Higgo shared third with Americans Brice Garnett, Erik Barnes and Kevin Streelman.

When play was suspended after a nearly two-hour delay in the afternoon due to heavy rain, MJ Daffue was through 11 holes and on one-under-par.
