Fewer bogeys is Reto’s aim ahead of final LPGA Mediheal round

Paula Reto heads into the final round of the LPGA Tour’s LPGA Mediheal Championship knowing she needs to cut down on bogeys after the finished the third round on Saturday four shots behind the leader in second place.

Reto and the leader Jodi Ewart Shadoff of England each carded a three-under-par 69 in the third round, but Shadoff was bogey-free while Reto made two bogeys. Reto made two bogeys in the first round, and three in the second, while Shadoff had three in her second and one in her first.

“I am making two or three bogeys a round,” said Reto, “so I feel like I need to make a few more birdies just to counteract those. So maybe I’ll try fewer bogeys tomorrow and more birdies and maybe that will put me up top.

“I need to try to hit some irons closer. Having those shorter putts, the afternoon was a little bit bumpier. Just sort of that area I would say. Hitting my driver decent. Hitting everything decent, but probably need to be a little closer. I didn’t take advantage of the par-fives today. You know, two pars on the ones that were reachable, so those are small things that I am going to have to try to get tomorrow.

“She’s playing really steady, real strong, not making any bogeys, so I’m going to have to try to do the same and just give myself opportunities, but try not to think about it, have fun and enjoy it as well.”

It was Reto’s least successful round of the tournament in putting so far. She had 28 putts compared to the 26 in the first round and 24 in the second, and, with her hitting 14 of 18 greens in regulation, she would have liked that to have been better.

She has one more shot at it in the final round, and she could be winning her second LPGA Tour title in a single season if she gets it all right.
