Darren Fichardt moved into a share of eighth on Saturday with a one-under-par 71 in the third round of the Challenge Tour’s British Challenge at St Mellion Estate in Plymouth, England.
Fichardt made six birdies and five bogeys in tough weather conditions to move to five-under-par for the tournament. That was six strokes off the lead which was held by Welshman Stuart Manley, who had a four-under-par 68 to move to 11-under ahead of the final round. Manley was two clear of England’s Josh Hilleard, with Tom Vaillant of France and Alex Fitzpatrick of England in a share of third on eight-under.
Fichardt was joined on five-under by Wilco Nienaber who had a third round of level-par 72.
Brandon Stone had a two-over 74 and was in a share of 30th on one-under for the tournament, and Luke Jerling battled to a six-over 78 to be on two-over in a share of 50th.
JJ Senekal had the worst of it of the South African players, slumping to a 14-over-par 86 to slide all the way down to 62nd.
