Darren Fichardt carded a four-under-par 66 on Friday in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Made in HimmerLand at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort in Denmark to jump 39 places on the leaderboard ahead of the weekend.
Fichardt, who won on the Challenge Tour last week, had opened unimpressively with a two-over 72 and had looked in danger of missing the cut. But the good feelings of the win obviously came flooding back for the 48-year-old as he picked up three bogeys and a birdie on each of the nines. He moved to a share of 13th at two-under-par for the tournament, seven strokes off the lead which was held by Spain’s Nacho Elvira at nine-under. Elvira led by one from first-round leader Robert MacIntyre of Scotland, while England’s Ross Fisher was on six-under in third.
The next best South African was in a share of 26th, and it was Justin Walters, who had an even more dramatic climb up the leaderboard. He was up 42 places with his four-under-par 66.
Daniel van Tonder had a three-under 67 to climb 38 places to level-par at the halfway mark of the tournament in a share of 40th. Also on level-par was Hennie du Plessis after a two-under 68. Thomas Aiken, Bryce Easton and Louis de Jager all made the cut on one-over with rounds of 67, 68 and 70 respectively.
Keenan Davidse, Tristen Strydom, JC Ritchie, Zander Lombard, Deon Germishuys, Jacques Kruyswijk, Oliver Bekker and Jayden Schaper all missed the cut.
