Dylan Frittelli arrested a poor run of form on Thursday when he carded an opening two-under-par 69 in the first round of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Frittelli, who has missed five cuts in his last eight events on the PGA Tour, started on the 10th, and was soon slipping with bogeys on the 12th and the 14th. But he was bogey-free after that, with birdies on 15 and 17, and then on five and seven on his homeward nine. He was in a share of 35th, six shots off the lead which was held by Russell Henley on eight-under. Henley led by one from Adam Svensson of Canada and Korea’s Byeong Hun An.
One stroke behind Frittelli on one-under were Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Garrick Higgo. They were in a share of 51st. Higgo, in particular, will be looking for a strong finish this week to push himself up the three places required for him to qualify for the first tournament of the FedEx finals and to lock up his eligibility for next season.
MJ Daffue had a one-over-par 71 and Erik van Rooyen was on three-over.
