Jason Froneman made four birdies and two bogeys on Tuesday on his way to a two-under-par 68 and a one-stroke lead in the first round of the Bushveld Tour’s Hamilton’s Series #3 at Killarney Country Club.
In a share of second after the first round of the 54-hole event were Andre van Dyk and Luke Mayo, and in a share of fourth on level-par 70 were Chris Long and amateur Sam McKenzie. There were five players in a share of fifth on one-over-par.
Froneman started with an early birdie on the second hole, but he gave that shot back with a bogey on the fourth. He made two more birdies ahead of the turn, and on his way in, he dropped a shot on the 11th and made a birdie on the 15th to round out his scoring for the day.
Froneman came second in the last tournament in the four-event series, and he currently lies fifth on the Order of Merit. The Order of Merit for the four-event series carries a purse of R40,000 for the player who tops it at the end of the series, provided he’s played two events or more. The series ends on June 1.
