Nicole Garcia carded a second successive two-under-par 71 on Saturday to slide into second position after two rounds of the Ladies European Tour’s Aramco Team Series-London at the Centurion Club in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

Garcia made one less bogey in her second round than she did in her first, and she countered her three dropped shots with five birdies to move to four-under-par for the 54-hole tournament with one round to go.

She will have a mountain to climb if she is to catch leader Nelly Korda of the United States, who eased five strokes clear with her second round of fpur-under-par 69. Garcia was a shot clear of Sofie Bringner of Sweden and Japan’s Yuri Onishi who were on three-under.

Casandra Alexander was the better of the two South Africans in the field after the first round, but she had a real battle on her hands in the second round. She had seven bogeys and just a single birdie on her card up to the 14th hole, and she managed to pick up a second birdie on the 15th. She picked up another on the 18th to move closer to the top 10, sharing 11th on level-par heading into the final round.
