Her resilience saw her make five birdies to counteract the dropped shots and kept her inside the top 10 in a share of sixth. She was just four shots behind the lead which was held by Manon de Roey of Belgium, who, at four-under, was two clear of American Nelly Korda and Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden. One one-under were Lexi Thompson of the US and Pia Babnik of Slovenia. Garcia shared sixth with Brooke Henderson of Canada, Wales’ Chloe Williams, Stephanie Kyriacou of Australia, England’s Annabel Dimmock and Kylie Henry of Scotland.

Lee-Anne Pace was on eight-over.

In the team contest, Leona Maguire, Liz Young, Tvesa Malik and amateur Golden Tate joined forces to reach a total of 11-under-par. Team Peláez Trivino made up of Spain’s Ana Peláez Trivino alongside Garcia, France’s Emma Grechi and amateur Michael Singer sit in second place on 10-under-par.

“When I have a group like I have this week, I feel really good being the captain,” said Peláez, the 2022 Madrid Ladies Open champion. “They did a really, really good job in today’s conditions. It was fun. We had a great time out there.

“The most important thing in tricky conditions is to be patient. Sometimes you’re going to hit the best shot and you’re not going have the best bounce, so I think being patient and just taking one shot at a time is going to be key.”
