Nicole Garcia dropped just one shot on Thursday in the first round of the Ladies European Tour’s Hero Women’s India Open as she signed for an opening three-under-par 69 and a share of seventh place.

Garcia made two birdies on each of the nines, and dropped that one stroke with a bogey on the par-four sixth. At three-under, she was four strokes behind the leader, Linda Wessberg of Sweden, who had a hole-in-one on the fifth, together with six birdies and one bogey. At seven-under, Wessberg led by one from Anais Meyssonnier of France. Finland’s Noora Komulainen was in third with Amandeep Drall of India on five-under-par.

Nobuhle Dlamini of eSwatini was on level-par in a share of 23rd after the first round, while Stacy Bregman and Lejan Lewthwaite battled to seven-over 79 and eight-over 80 respectively.

Wessberg said, “I felt like I wasn’t playing great actually, but I gave myself some really good chances and I rolled in some good putts and I took advantage of those. Obviously, the hole-in-one on hole five, which helped the score.”

Garcia was one of four players to have scored 69 in her first 18 holes, with the Spanish duo of Ana Peláez Trivino and Luna Sobron Galmes for company in a tie for seventh, as well as home favourite Tvesa Malik.
