GOLFER OF THE WEEK FEB 13 2023: Ockie Strydom

It’s kind of tough to overlook a candidate for Golfer of the Week when someone closes with a nine-under-par 63 to come from behind and take a second DP World Tour title in six starts, and we haven’t overlooked Ockie Strydom.

There probably could be a case made for Strydom to take the award based solely on his third shot on the final hole of the Singapore Classic, when he played an exquisite little bump into the fringe of the elevated green and ran the ball up to inside a foot. That set him up for his ninth birdie of the round, and took him to the top of the leaderboard.

His victory took him inside the world’s top 150 players on the Official World Golf Ranking, and, just a year ago, he was on the verge of slipping outside the top 500.

The nature of his play over the weekend showed just how hot Strydom can run when things start going his way: He was good off the tee, he was imaginative with some shot-shaping, and he performed some wizardry around the greens – all before putting superbly.

For all that, Ockie Strydom is our Golfer of the Week, brought to you by
