For our first Golfer of the Week award, it’s hard to look past Louis Albertse.
The Sunshine Tour winner put his foot to the pedal when he needed to in the final round of the Section E event of the Asian Tour’s Qualifying School, Albertse made six birdies without dropping a shot to climb from a share of 13th on the leaderboard. That took him into third to book his place in this week’s Final Stage 90-hole marathon at Lakeview Resort & Golf Club in Hua Hin in Thailand.
Albertse won the 2021 Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Mount Edgecombe in September that year, and has had six top-10s between May and September 2022 in the 2022-23 Sunshine Tour season.
While he works hard to try and get another win on the Sunshine Tour, he has identified the ways he can take his game on to an international stage, too: “My main priority is the Sunshine Tour now, because playing good golf here will set up opportunities for playing rights overseas, and they will come through Q-schools, starts in selected events, or winning.”
Well, one of those opportunities beckons after his great showing last week.
