For our Golfer of the Week award, we had to wait for the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic to have its Monday finish – and Jacques Kruyswijk pipped others at the post to win it.
It wasn’t a stellar week for the big South African, but it was a week when he showed a consistency which will stand him in good stead as the season progresses. He had rounds of 69-69-70-72, and he was the top-finishing South African in the field.
His showing saw him climb 49 places on the Race to Dubai rankings to 79th, and that’s after a difficult year last year in which he didn’t play as many tournaments as he could have. He finished 2022 in 179th in the rankings.
He returns to South Africa this week to play in the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open, co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and the Challenge Tour as he continues his pursuit for form and a regular spot at the high table of European golf. He’s a former champion in that tournament, so last week’s good form will be a strong incentive.
