Retief Goosen closed with a two-under-par 70 on Sunday to finish in a share of third in the Legends Tour’s JCB Championship at JCB Golf & Country Club in Uttoxeter, England.
The two-tine US Open champion made four birdies and two bogeys to finish on eight-under-par for the 54-hole tournament, three shots behind the winner, Alex Cejka of Gemany. Cejka held off the challenge of Ireland’s Paul McGinley, who had a closing three-under 60 to finish two shots off the lead.
Goosen was in a three-way share of third with countryman James Kingston, who had a closing level-par 72, and with Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland, fresh of his Senior Open triumph last week. They were a shot ahead of Paul Lawrie of Scotland and Fiji’s Vijay Singh.
Ernie Els rounded off his week with a three-under 69 to finish on three-under in a share of 15th. Chris Williams was in 78th on 20-over after a closing 77.
