Retief Goosen finished in a share of seventh on Sunday in the PGA Tour Champions’ Kaulig Companies Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, with his closing three-under-par 67.

The two-time US Open champion had made four birdies without dropping a shot through the 12th hole, but he made his only bogey of the day on the 13th. That saw him finish the week on three-under-par.

He was seven strokes outside the play-off between New Zealand’s Steven Alker and Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain. Jimenez won with a birdie on the first extra hole for his fourth title of the season on the tour.

Two strokes down after playing partner Alker birdied the par-five 16th, Jimenez made a 10-foot birdie putt on the par-four 17th and an 18-footer on the par-four 18th. “I knew I had to make birdie-birdie to have any chance.” Jimenez said. “I make birdie on the 17th, gives you wings to go to 18th, and then the rest is history.”

Ernie Els closed with a three-over 73 to slip to a share of 25th.
