Cara Gorlei was the best-placed of the seven South Africans in action on Sunday in the Ladies European Tour’s Pre-Qualifier Marrakech with an opening three-under-par 69 at the Pre-Qualifier Samanah putting her in a share of second.
With places at the Final Qualifier of Lalla Aicha Q-School at stake, Iceland’s Ragga Kristinsdottir leads at Samanah Golf with a six-under-par 66, Scotland’s Alison Muirhead is top of the leaderboard at Noria Golf with a bogey-free six-under-par 67, while English amateur Annabell Fuller is in front at Palmerie Rotana with a seven-under-par 65.
Gorlei’s round of 69 included five birdies and two bogeys and she was pleased with her day. “It was good, the wind picked up at the end and it got kind of tough,” she said. “There were a couple of long holes coming in, I made some good saves throughout the whole day and made a couple of birdies coming in which was pretty good.
“I played nicely in Australia. I knew my game was pretty close, so I’m glad I got put on this course where it suits me.”
Britney Fay Berger was in a share of 40th at four-over.
At the Pre Qualifier Noria, Isabella van Rooyen shared 22nd at two-over-par together with amateur Danielle du Toit; Lindi Coetzee was in a share of 32nd on three-over.
