In demanding conditions at Al Mouj Golf in Muscat, Branden Grace ended up as one of the least damaged South Africans after a windy second round in the Asian Tour’s International Series Oman.
Grace carded a one-over-par 73 on a day when there were only 11 scores better than par, and 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen ballooned out to a nine-over-par 81 to miss the cut. The tournament was led at halfway by Japan’s Takumi Kanaya at four-under. He was one shot clear of countryman Ryo Hisatsune. Grace was in a share of 33rd on three-over-par.
Oosthuizen wasn’t the only big name to get blown away: Former world number one Brooks Koepka had a six-over 78 to miss the cut by two. Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel also had a 78 to miss out by three.
Ahead of those luminaries, Hennie du Plessis hung on to make the cut on six-over after a 77, as did the Vincent bothers from Zimbabwe, Scott and Kieran.
Neil Schietekat, Jbe’ Kruger, Ian Snyman, Jaco Ahlers, Justin Harding and Mathiam Keyser all missed the cut.
