Clinton Grobler eased to a one-stroke win on Friday in the Bushveld Tour’s one-day event at Modderfontein Golf Club with a four-under-par 68.

Grobler made six birdies and two bogeys to hold off the challenges of Ryan van Velzen and amateur Yurav Premlall who each carded a three-under 69. In a share of fourth were Bradley Diggeden and Stuart Smith of Botswana. Marcel Steyn-Scholtz, Ruben Labuschagne and Therion Nel shared sixth on one-under-par.

Grobler got his round off to the perfect start with a birdie on the first, but a bogey on the sixth set him back slightly. He regained the stroke with a birdie on the seventh immediately after dropping and he reached the turn in one-under. Birdies on 10, 13, 15 and 18 were counterbalanced by a single dropped shot on the 11th on his homeward nine. Even Premlall’s three birdies in a row to finish were not enough to catch Grobler.

Van Velzen had just one bogey on his card, and Premlall had a double and two bogeys interspersed with seven birdies.
