Garrick Higgo closed with a two-under-par 69 on Sunday to finish in a share of 21st in the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
Higgo, who had been in a share of second at the halfway stage, followed his third-round level-par 71 with three birdies and a bogey in the final round to finish on 13-under-par for the tournament. That was eight strokes behind the winner Sepp Straka of Austria, who carded a nine-under-par 62 in the final round, including a double-bogey on the 18th. Straka won by two from Brendon Todd and Alex Smalley of the United States.
Higgo’s performance will have given him some belief that he is starting to find some form again after a long lean period. He climbed three places on the FedEx Cup rankings to 81st as the season heads to wards its final quarter, where a place in the top 70 is the goal to get into the lucrative playoffs for a bonus pool of $75-million.
