Garrick Higgo improved to a five-under-par 66 on Friday in the second round of the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, North Carolina.
He went bogey-free, but, with his opening two-over-par 73, it meant he climbed into only a share of 46th at the halfway mark of the tournament at three-under-par. That put him nine strokes behind the lead which was held by Jimmy Walker, who carded his second successive six-under 65 to move to 12-under. Walker led by three from Justin Rose, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.
Higgo wasn’t the leading South African after the second round: That spot was taken by Ernie Els, who carded a one-under 70 to move to four-under and a share of 34th.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout joined Higgo on three-under after his second round of three-under 68, while Erik van Rooyen missed the cut.
Masters champion and world number one Jon Rahm seemed to have found a regmaker for his post-major hangover, and he carded a seven-under 64 to climb to six-under and a share of 18th.
