When play was suspended on Thursday in the first round of the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open 2025 at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, Garrick Higgo had completed his round in six-under-par 66 for a share of sixth.
It was a bogey-free effort from the left-hander as he picked up three strokes on either side. It left him four strokes off the fast start from American Kevin Roy, who opened with a 10-under-par 62. Roy let by one from countryman Chris Gotterup, with Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and Davis Riley of the United States in a share of third on eight-under.
Also on six-under-par, but having played just 14 holes, Thriston Lawrence seemed to have found his feet on his new tour. He dropped a shot on the second hole, but got things going well after that with two birdies ahead of the turn. He went on a tear before the suspension of play, making three birdies in a row from the 11th, and following that with an eagle on the 14th.
The other South African in the field, amateur Kieron van Wyk, was also on six-under. He had played 15 holes. He made four birdies on his front nine after staring on 10, and four on his back nine. He also made a double-bogey on his back on the third.
