Casey Jarvis might look back with a hint of regret on the double-bogey he made on the seventh on Sunday in the final round of the Challenge Tour’s D+D Real Czech Challenge at Panorama Golf Resort in Kácov, Czech Republic.
But regret is not in his 19-year-old nature, thank goodness, and his aggressive approach will win him many tournaments in the future. He’ll have to wait a little longer for his maiden Challenge Tour title after he fell just a single shot short of catching Italy’s Andrea Pavan who finished on 18-under after his 69.
Jarvis had a three-shot deficit going into the final round, and, when Pavan made two bogeys and a double in the first five holes, Jarvis’ two birdies had given him a two-stroke lead already. Pavan clawed a stroke back with birdie on six, but there was a three-shot swing on seven when the Italian made birdie and Jarvis dropped two strokes on the par-three.
As holes run out in the final round of a tournament, chasing becomes increasingly difficult, and, although Jarvis made an eagle and four birdies as he threw the kitchen sink at the leader, a bogey on the 17th ultimately put paid to his chances. Pavan stayed calm down the homeward stretch, made three birdies in a row on 11, 12 and 13, and then parred his way home to secure the victory over Jarvis who carded a five-under.
Behind Jarvis, Jaco Prinsloo also had to deal with a double-bogey, and he closed with a two-under-par 70 to move to 12-under and a share of fifth. Albert Venter had a closing level-par 72 to finish in a share of 33rd on four-under.
For Jarvis, the wait for a victory goes on again. It looks ever more likely. And when it comes, it feels as if the floodgates will open.
