Casey Jarvis started the Challenge Tour’s Hainan Open at Danzhou Ancient Saltern Golf Club in Hainan Island, China with a three-under-par 69 to be on a share of 18th after the first round on Friday.
Jarvis had a colourful scorecard, with an eagle two on the par-four seventh, six birdies and five bogeys. He was six shots off the lead which was held by China’s Chuan-lin Jian, who had an eagle and seven birdies in his bogey-free 63. He led by three from his amateur countryman, Wenyi Ding. There were six players on five-under in a share of third, and nine on four-under-par 68 in a share of ninth.
Jarvis was in a 12-way share of 18th, together with, amongst others, Brandon Stone. Stone had a less dramatic round than Jarvis, with four birdies and a bogey.
