Two eagles in a row on Saturday helped Luke Jerling to a six-under-par 64 in the third round of the Challenge Tour’s Open de Bretagne in France. That lifted him five-under for the tournament and a share of fifth heading into the final round.
His eagles came on the 11th and 12th, after he had started his third round with a double-bogey on the second hole. But he got things back on track with a birdie on fourth, before he really turned on the charm. He made four birdies in a row around the turn from the seventh to the 10th. He followed that run with an eagle-three on the par0-five 11th, and an eagle-two on the par-four 12th. Unfortunately, he dropped a shot on the 17th.
But at five-under, he’s four shots off the lead which was shared after 54 holes by Ireland’s Ruaidhri McGee and Alfie Plant of England on nine-under. They led by two from halfway leader Robin Scott-Siegrist of France, with Spain’s Borja Virto in third on six-under. Jerling shared fifth with three other players.
Jaco Prinsloo battled his way to a five-over 75 in the third round, slipping to a share of 22nd. Two triple-bogeys hurt him, and he is level-par for the tournament.
Deon Germishuys and Bryce Easton were on three-over after rounds of 72 and 73 respectively.
