Mathiam Keyser got his campaign underway in the Asian Tour’s Royal’s Cup at Grand Prix Golf Club in Kanchanaburi, Thailand with a four-under-par 68 in the first round to take up a share of 13th.
Keyser got his round off to a horrible start with a double-bogey seven on the second hole, but he recovered admirably with three birdies in four holes from the fourth to the seventh. He slipped back to level-par for the round with a bogey on the ninth, but he had another golden birdie blitz with four birdies in the final five holes.
The lead was at eight-under, and was held by Chinese Taipei’s Chan Shih-chang, who made nine birdies and a bogey as he finished one clear of Justin Quiban of the Philippines. Bjorn Hellgren of Sweden and the Thai pair of Sadom Kaewkanjana and Thitipan Pachuayprakong shared third on six-under.
Keith Horne signed for a one-under 71 while Ian Snyman carded a level-par 72. Benjamin Follett-Smith of Zimbabwe had a one-under 71, and Scott Vincent battled his way to a four-over-par 76.
