England’s Joe Knox won a sudden-death play-off on Wednesday to win the Bushveld Tour’s Bushveld Series #12 at Kyalami Country Club after battling to a closing round of two-over-par 74.

Knox, who is the man who became the first person in South Africa to have 10 consecutive birdies in a tournament round, beginning at the very first hole at Waterkloof Golf Club last December in a Bushveld Tour event, made three birdies in his final round. But his five bogeys meant he finished the 54-hole tournament on four-under-par.

That was level with Louis Liebenberg, who closed with a one-under-par 71. Knox took the sudden-death play-off with a birdie on the par-five 18th, matching his score in regulation, and won his maiden Bushveld Tour title in the process.

Amateur Ryan van der Klis closed with a two-under-par 70 to finish third, and, in the process, moved to second on the Bushveld Tour Order of Merit.

Knox is now 11th on the Order of Merit. Still at the top is Jaden Deltel, who finished 16th at Kyalami on four-over-par for the tournament.
