Jacques Kruyswijk kept himself inside the top 20 of the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai with a closing three-under-par 69 on Sunday helping him finish in a share of 19th in the BMW International Open in Germany.
Although Kruyswijk made a bogey early on in the final round at Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, and dropped two more shots, he also made six birdies as he reached 11-under-par for the tournament. That put his 11 strokes behind the winner, Daniel Brown of England, who closed with a six-under-par 66 to win by two from countryman Jordan Smith.
Kruyswijk’s projected ranking in the season-long Race to Dubai was 18th, as he continues to have a good year on the tour after his win in the Magical Kenya Open.
He wasn’t the top-finishing South African, however: Brandon Stone made two bogeys in his final five holes in the final round on his way to a closing two-under-par 70. That took him to 13-under-par for the tournament and a share of 15th. He had started the final round in a share of ninth. Stone’s performance edges him closer to the top 50 in the Race to Dubai, as he climbed five places to 56th.
Dylan Naidoo and Shaun Norris were amongst the players who shared 26th on 10-under-par, after both closed with five-under-par 67s. They each dropped one place on the Race to Dubai list: South African Open champion Naidoo went down to 27th, and Alfred Dunhill Championship winner Norris slipped to 12th.
Zander Lombard closed with a two-under 70 to be in a share of 58th, and he is on an upward trend in the rankings – from a very low base – as he went up six places to 182nd.
