Although he slipped a little in the final round on Saturday, Christo Lamprecht showed he’s found his way in professional golf as a closing three-under-par 68 gave him fourth place in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic.
It was a fourth consecutive round in the 60s for the former world number one amateur, and his 19-under-par total for the week put him six shots off the winning total of 25-under-par. Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju blew away the field with his closing eight-under 64 besting Russell Knox of Scotland and Japan’s Kensei Hirata by five strokes.
Lamprecht had a shaky start to his final round, with bogeys on two and four, but he steadied the ship admirably, and made birdies on five and eight to turn in level-par. He made three birdies without dropping a shot on the homeward nine, including a consecutive pair on 17 and 18 to round off his good week.
His performance puts him in eighth after two events on the Korn Ferry Tour rankings, and with the pathway to the PGA Tour getting ever narrower, it’s a good start to a season which could be pivotal for Lamprecht.
MJ Daffue and Barend Botha missed the cut, and Garrick Higgo withdrew to take up a place in the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open which opened up for him.
