Christo Lamprecht made a bogey on the second hole on Friday, but he didn’t put a foot wrong after that with nine birdies on his way to an eight-under 62 in the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Astara Golf Championship in Bogota, Colombia.

The former world number one amateur reeled off five in a row after that early dropped shot, from the fifth to the ninth. He picked up another on the 12th, and then three more in a row from the 15th to the 17th.

That lifted him to 10-under-par for the tournament after his opening two-under, and he was in a share of fourth heading in to the weekend. He was three shots off the lead which was held by American Ross Steelman, who had a nine-under-par to move to 13-under. Steelman was two clear of Ireland’s Rayhan Thomas and fellow-American Jack Maguire.

Barend Botha had a six-under-par second round, and, at eight-under for the tournament, was in a share of 14th. Garrick Higgo carded three-under-par, and he was in a share of 14th with, amongst others, Botha.

Lamprecht is settling in to his work nicely on the Korn Ferry Tour, and, in his current position, is projected to move to 11th on the tour’s rankings.
