A pair of bogeys on the closing two holes on Friday slowed Thriston Lawrence’s progress up the leaderboard in the second round of the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
In the end, he carded a two-under-par 69 to move to six-under through 36 holes and a share of 13th place. He made an eagle, three birdies and another bogey in his second round, and he was seven strokes off the lead.
Up front, it was the unlikely figure of Matthew Balwin, who added a six-under-par 66 to his opening 65 to move two clear at 13-under of Niklas Norgaard of Denmark. France’s Antoine Rozner was third on 10-under, with Rory McIlroy and Matteo Manassero in a share of fourth on nine-under.
The other four South Africans in the field, Justin Harding, Dylan Frittelli, Ockie Strydom and Jayden Schaper, all missed the cut.
