Thriston Lawrence resumed his position as South Africa’s highest-ranked golfer on the Official World Golf Ranking with his share of third in the DP World India Championship at the weekend.

Although he has been ranked as high as 45th, Lawrence’s seven-place climb to 61st lifted him above Aldrich Potgieter, who held the top spot amongst South Africans for a few months prior. Potgieter slipped one place to 66th.

But the most impressive climb up the rankings by a South African came from Warwick Purchase, who won his maiden Sunshine Tour title in the Fortress Invitational at Glendower Golf Club. He was up 816 places to 579th from 1,385th.

Kyle Barker was up 91 places from 867th to 776th after the Sunshine Tour event, and Oliver Bekker was up 273 places from 1,013rd to 729th after he won the WA Open at Mount Lawley Golf Club in Perth.

Inside South Africa’s top 25, according to the official rankings, Casey Jarvis was up 19 places to 378th after the DP World India Championship, where he finished in a share of 17th. Jayden Schaper contended in the same tournament, and his share of sixth lifted him 18 places to 154th. He is South Africa’s eighth-best player according to the official lists.
