Thriston Lawrence, already a two-time winner on the DP World Tour this season, kept himself in contention with a second consecutive round of two-under-par 69 in the second round of the Estrella Damm NA Andalucía Masters in Spain.

At Valderrama, always one of the toughest of tests on the circuit, Lawrence moved to four-under-par for the tournament, a share of seventh and five strokes off the lead. The top of the leaderboard featured a three-way tie at nine-under between Spain’s Adrian Otaegui, Min Woo Lee of Australia and another Spaniard in Angel Hidalgo. They led by three from Joakim Lagergren of Sweden, with Scot Robert MacIntyre and Sebastian Garcia Rodrigues on five-under in a share of fifth.

Lawrence kept things tidy with three birdies and just a single dropped shot. That bogey came on the ninth, where he missed the green with his approach to the par-four, and then missed his putt from just inside nine feet for par.

Only four other South Africans made the cut: It took a four-under from Oliver Bekker to get to one-over for the tournament and a share of 30th, while Zander Lombard had a second consecutive one-over 72 to be in a share of 42nd on two-over. Erik van Rooyen and Louis de Jager made the cut on the number at three-over after rounds on level-par 71 and six-over 77.
