Lawrence lies 4th after 2nd round of Magical Kenya Open

Thriston Lawrence moved into fourth place on Friday after a second-round five-under-par 66 in the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi took him to nine-under-par at the halfway stage of the tournament.

Lawrence made seven birdies and two bogeys, settling in three shots off the lead held at 10-under-par by former Joburg Open champion Shubhankar Sharma of India. Sharma had a four-under-par 67 to hold a one-stroke lead over Masahiro Kawamura of Japan and Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson.

Dean Burmester followed his opening four-under with a two-under 69 to be in a share of fifth place on six-under, one behind Lawrence.

Jayden Schaper, Daniel van Tonder and Hennie du Plessis shared 10th place with three other players on five-under-par after scores of 67, 69 and 67 respectively. Justin Harding was one shot further back after a second-round of one-under 70 in a share of 16th.

Richard Sterne was on three-under at the hallway to make the cut, while Oliver Bekker and Jacques Kruyswijk also made it to the weekend on one-under after 36 holes.

Jacques Blaauw, Haydn Porteous, Zander Lombard, Toto Thimba Jnr and Bryce Easton all missed the cut.
