An eagle and three birdies on Friday saw Thriston Lawrence climb inside the top 10 at the halfway mark of the DP World Tour’s DP World India Championship at Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi.

Lawrence had a quiet front nine after starting his round on the 10th hole, making just a single birdie on the 14th ahead of the turn. He picked up two birdies on the trot on the sixth and the seventh, and made an eagle-three on the eighth to complete his scoring for the round.

He was on a total of eight-under-par for the tournament, four strokes off the lead which was held by Tommy Fleetwood at 12-under-par.

Fleetwood had a bogey-free eight-under 64 to hit the front, and he was one clear of a pair of Open champions in Brian Harman and Shane Lowry. Keita Nakajima of Japan was fourth on 10-under, and England’s Brandon Robinson Thompson and Joost Luiten of the Nerherlands were in a share fifth on nine-under.

Lawrence shared eighth with six other players, including American Michael Kim.

A shot back from that group was Casey Jarvis, who was the leading South African after the first round. He had a one-under 71 in the second round, with three birdies and two bogeys. At seven-under, he was in a share of 14th.

Jayden Schaper and Zander Lombard were on six-under in a share of 17th together with, amongst others, world number two Rory McIlroy and Norway’s Viktor Hovland.

Thomas Aiken made the cut as he reached four-under through 36 holes, as did Robin Williams, Jacques Kruyswijk, Darren Fichardt and Richard Sterne on the number at two-under-par.
