Casandra Alexander opened the Women’s Scottish Open with a level-par 72 on Thursday at Dundonald Links in Ayrshire, Scotland to have a share of 24th after the first round.
Hinako Shibuno of Japan fired an opening round of eight-under 64 to lead by two strokes from Sweden’s Madelene Sagström. Three players are in a share of third place with Denmark’s Nicole Broch Estrup, Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall and American Caroline Inglis all on four-under-par.
Alexander started with a birdie on the first, but dropped a shot immediately after that on the second. She made another birdie on five, but made bogeys on six, eight and nine to turn two-over. She picked up birdies on 14 and 16 on her way home to be the leading South African in the field.
Paula Reto had a one-over-par 73 in a share of 39th, while Lee-Anne Pace was on two-over in a share of 54th. Ashleigh Buhai was in a share of 92nd on four-over, while Nicole Garcia was on six-over in a share of 117th.
