Casandra Alexander moved into a share of third on Friday with a level-par 72 in the second round of the Ladies European Tour’s Wistron Ladies Open-Taiwan at Sunrise Golf and Country Club.
On a windy day which made conditions difficult and low scores hard to come by, Alexander overcame a double-bogey and two bogeys with four birdies to stay at three-under-par for the tournament through 36 holes. That put her two shots off the lead, which was held by Chiara Tamburlini of Switzerland, who had a one-over-par 73 to lead by one from Chonlada Chayanun of Thailand.
“It was tougher conditions than yesterday,” said the Alexander. “The wind direction was basically the same, but it was a lot stronger and a lot more consistent, yesterday was more up and down. The wind made it really tough.
“I think I played nicely, I wouldn’t say I hit it close or anything, but I was just limiting the damage in places and made a lot of up-and-downs. I think I had 24 putts today because I had a lot of up-and-downs as it was so hard to get it close to the greens as they’re small here.
“That was the main objective of today was to miss in the right places. I made a silly double somewhere along the lines, I duffed a chip and two-putted. Overall, it was pretty tidy. My caddie Charlie is back, he is feeling a lot better, so I felt a lot more organised when I came to the tee this morning. It was good to have him back.”
Nicole Garcia had a one-over 73 in the second round, and she was in a share of 11th on one-under-par. Lee-Anne Pace had a level-par 72 to stay at two-over for the tournament and she was in a share of 31st.
