While he carded a level-par 72 on Friday, Christiaan Bezuidenhout slid a long way down the leaderboard into a share of 57th in the second round of the PGA Tour’s American Express in La Quinta, California.
Bezuidenhout made an eagle, two birdies and four bogeys to go with his opening six-under-par, but that left him eight shots off the lead which was held by Patrick Cantlay of the United States after he signed for a second-round four-under 68. Cantlay led by one from Tom Hoge of the United States.
The round of the day came from Will Zalatoris, who carded an 11-under 61 on the same course where Bezuidenhout played. Zalatoris shared third with four other players.
With the event being played on three courses before the final round is decided on the Pete Dye Stadium Course on Sunday, the cut will only come after the third round on Saturday. Dylan Frittelli was on one-under in a share of 119th after 36 holes, while Dawie van der Walt and James Hart du Preez were on five-over and six-over respectively. Rory Sabbatini was on one-over.
